Eligibility Requirements for The Block Auditions 2027

These have stayed consistent for years, and there’s no reason to expect Season 23 to be different:

• Age: 18–65 years old
• Team structure: Couples, long-term partners, family teams, or close friendship duos — you apply as a pair
• Residency: Australian citizens or permanent residents
• Availability: Free for a 10–12 week shoot, historically starting between February and mid-March. For a 2027 air date, that likely means early-to-mid 2027.
• Work: You cannot hold down your regular job during filming
• Experience: Renovation or trade experience is a plus but genuinely not required — plenty of successful contestants have gone in as total beginners

How to Apply, Step by Step?

1. Watch for the official casting page. Applications run through MyCastingNet (go.mycastingnet.com), not through Nine’s main site directly.
2. Fill out the online application form — basic details, your relationship/team dynamic, and availability.
3. Submit a 3–5 minute audition video. This is the part that actually gets you noticed.
4. Wait for a callback. Only a fraction of applicants get an interview; fewer still make it to a face-to-face casting round.

What Actually Gets You Noticed?

Forget polish. Producers are casting for a 12-week show that has to hold a national audience four nights a week — they’re looking for teams who bring genuine chemistry and can handle pressure on camera, not the most technically perfect renovators.

Past standout applicants have gotten in with little to no trade background by showing:

• A clear team dynamic. Who’s the planner, who’s the risk-taker — that contrast is what makes couples watchable.
• Real stakes. A specific reason you want this, not a generic “we love renovating.”
• Composure under stress. Talk about a time you pushed through something difficult together — filming is 12–14 hour days for months.

Where Will Season 23 Film?

The Block has rotated locations every season — Hampton East, Daylesford, and now Mt Eliza for 2026, the first season with water views.

There’s no confirmed location for Season 23 yet, and speculating on a specific suburb this early wouldn’t be reliable. We’ll add this section in as soon as Nine confirms it, likely around the official casting announcement or the 2027 upfronts.

What Do Contestants Get Paid?

Contestants receive a modest weekly living allowance during filming — enough to cover basics, not a salary.

The real money is in the auction: teams keep the profit above their house’s reserve price, which is where most contestants’ actual earnings (or losses) come from. It’s a genuine financial risk, not a guaranteed payday.
