Season 21 of America’s Got Talent has moved fast on the Golden Buzzer front. Each judge and host Terry Crews holds two Golden Buzzers apiece for a total of 10 up for grabs this season, and through four episodes of auditions, eight have already been used—one of the quickest Golden Buzzer paces in the show’s history.

Here’s every act that’s earned one so far, ranked from solid to stunning, with this list set to update as the final two buzzers drop and auditions continue.

8. Acro Canine Crew — Terry Crews (Episode 1)

This Edmonton-based acrobatic dance team, made up of women and girls aged 7 to 21, brought athleticism and choreography—but the real scene-stealers were the dogs that joined mid-routine.

Crews raced down from backstage to press the buzzer himself before Sofía Vergara could beat him to it.

7. Hundred Fingers — Howie Mandel (Episode 2)

Magician Yu Hojin previously competed on AGT Season 17 and AGT: Fantasy League, but came back this time with a 10-person team built around intricately coordinated illusions.

Mandel hit the buzzer just ahead of Crews, who sprinted down to the judges’ table a beat too late.

6. Lara D — Sofía Vergara (Episode 2)

The Australian singer turned in a powerful vocal performance strong enough that Vergara beat out Mandel for the buzzer, kicking off a Golden Buzzer pace that hasn’t really slowed since.

5. Mackenzie Sol — Mel B (Episode 4)

Sol’s AGT story has a two-decade arc: he first performed for Simon Cowell on The X Factor at age four and returned 21 years later to finally earn his Golden Buzzer moment, this time from Mel B.

4. Luke Taleno — Howie Mandel (Episode 1)

A childhood cancer survivor who learned English through music, Taleno sat in the AGT audience the year before to support friend and Season 20 standout Jourdan Blue, and predicted on camera that he’d be back as a Golden Buzzer recipient.

He performed an original song about exactly that journey, and Mandel made the prediction come true, calling him “the image of authenticity.”

3. Rubén Roldán Bustos — Simon Cowell (Episode 4)

The 23-year-old parkour specialist from Spain delivered one of the most physically unique Golden Buzzer auditions in recent AGT memory, capped by a one-legged sequence that left the judges visibly stunned.

It was Cowell’s second and final buzzer of the audition round, closing out his run on a high note.

2. Isaac Atkins — Mel B (Episode 3)

An Army sergeant who took leave specifically to audition, Atkins sang Måneskin’s “Beggin'” with old-school soul, later telling the judges the AGT stage felt scarier than jumping from a plane at 18,000 feet.

His fellow soldiers had been pushing him to try out after seeing his in-car singing videos online.

1. Lai Noelle — Simon Cowell (Episode 1)

The Season 21 premiere’s first Golden Buzzer remains its most emotionally powerful. At just 14 years old, the Texas singer delivered a performance of “Die On This Hill” by Sienna Spiro that judges called beyond her years, with Vergara nearly pressing the buzzer herself before Cowell beat her to it, simply saying, “Words aren’t necessary.”

What Actually Makes an AGT Golden Buzzer Performance?

Many viewers assume a Golden Buzzer simply goes to the night’s most talented performer. While talent is essential, that’s only part of the equation.

After more than two decades of America’s Got Talent, a clear pattern has emerged: Golden Buzzers are often awarded to acts that create unforgettable television moments as much as exceptional performances.

Several factors typically influence the decision:

FactorWhy It Matters
Outstanding TalentThe act must immediately stand out from the competition.
Emotional StoryA compelling personal journey helps viewers connect with the performer.
MemorabilityJudges remember performances that stay with them long after the audition ends.
Television ValueProducers and judges alike know a Golden Buzzer should create one of the season’s defining moments.
Audience ReactionHuge applause and genuine emotional responses often reinforce a judge’s instinct.

This explains why technically stronger acts sometimes receive four enthusiastic “Yes” votes instead of a Golden Buzzer. Judges have only two buzzers each, so timing matters. They may believe an outstanding performer can advance without one or decide to save the buzzer for an even bigger moment later in auditions.

Today’s Golden Buzzer moments are also designed to resonate beyond the television broadcast. The performances that dominate social media, generate millions of views, and become the season’s signature clips often have an advantage.

The Hidden Strategy Behind Each Judge’s Golden Buzzers

Although every judge says they follow their instincts, longtime AGT viewers can recognize clear patterns in the types of acts they reward.

JudgeTypical Golden Buzzer Preference
Simon CowellFuture stars, exceptional vocalists, and unique international talent with commercial appeal.
Howie MandelOriginal concepts, unconventional performers, and creative risk-takers.
Sofía VergaraEmotional singers, charismatic performers, and family-friendly acts.
Mel BBig voices, fearless stage presence, and high-energy performances.
Terry CrewsInspirational stories, uplifting acts, and performances that unite the audience.

These aren’t rigid rules, but understanding each judge’s history makes future Golden Buzzer choices easier to anticipate. Two judges can watch the same audition and reach completely different conclusions because they value different qualities.

Myth vs. Reality: Common Golden Buzzer Misconceptions

Golden Buzzers are one of AGT’s biggest traditions, but several fan assumptions don’t hold up when you look at previous seasons.

MythReality
A Golden Buzzer guarantees the Finals. Many Golden Buzzer acts have been eliminated before reaching the Finals.
The best act always gets the Golden Buzzer.Judges also consider storytelling, originality, timing, and television impact.
Judges know in advance who they’ll choose. Many decisions happen spontaneously after an unexpectedly great performance.
Every standing ovation deserves a Golden Buzzer.Standing ovations are common; Golden Buzzers are intentionally rare.
Early Golden Buzzers are always the strongest. Some of AGT’s biggest finalists have appeared much later in the audition rounds.

Looking beyond these myths helps explain why some Golden Buzzer decisions surprise both viewers and fellow judges.

Why Similar Performances Can Receive Completely Different Results

One of the biggest misconceptions about AGT is that every performance is judged in isolation. In reality, every audition is evaluated within the context of the entire season.

Several variables can influence the outcome:

  • Whether a judge has already used both of their Golden Buzzers.
  • The overall strength of that audition episode.
  • The need for variety between singers, dancers, magicians, comedians, and danger acts.
  • The atmosphere inside the theater during filming.
  • Whether another contestant has already delivered a similar performance earlier in the season.

Because of these factors, two nearly identical performances in different episodes can receive very different results. Talent matters, but context often determines whether an act receives a Golden Buzzer or simply advances with four “Yes” votes.

Can Early Golden Buzzers Predict the Season Winner?

Fans often assume the first Golden Buzzer recipients become the favorites to win, but AGT history paints a more nuanced picture.

Many champions have received Golden Buzzers, yet several winners reached the top without one. Likewise, some of the most talked-about Golden Buzzer acts have been eliminated well before the Finals.

History suggests contestants are most likely to succeed if they continue improving throughout the competition rather than relying on a memorable audition alone. Consistency, versatility, and the ability to connect with viewers over multiple rounds usually matter more than one emotional performance.

For Season 21, the newly introduced Judges’ Callbacks round will reveal far more about each Golden Buzzer act’s championship potential than the audition itself. The Golden Buzzer creates momentum, but sustained excellence is what ultimately wins America’s Got Talent.

Two Golden Buzzers Still to Go

With eight of ten Golden Buzzers awarded through Episode 4, two remain heading into the second half of auditions. Mel B, Simon Cowell, and Howie Mandel have already used both of their buzzers, leaving only Sofía Vergara and Terry Crews with one Golden Buzzer each.

Those final two opportunities will be awarded across the remaining audition episodes before the competition shifts into the new Judges’ Callbacks round ahead of the Live Shows.

This ranking will continue to be updated after each episode as the remaining Golden Buzzers are awarded and the competition evolves.
